GSU announces new alert system
GRAMBLING---- All lights, horns and other alert
signals point to readiness at Grambling State University as the institution
announces its plan to go active today with the new emergency alert system.
The university has been upgrading its emergency preparedness plan for a
few months and has included the new alert concept. The new system will only
be used if there is an actual emergency on the campus. All students and
employees can register their confidential contact information through the
Banner Web system.
GSU has contracted with FirstCall Interactive Network to provide alert services
for the Lincoln Parish institution. FirstCall is a statewide initiative
funded by the Louisiana Board of Regents and endorsed by the University
of Louisiana System as the emergency notification system that will send
text messages, voice and e-mail messages to all GSU students and employees
during a crisis situation. This is another measure of enhancing the campus'
emergency preparedness plan.
"It is our intent to provide a wholesome and safe environment for all
of our students and employees at all times," said University President
Dr. Horace A. Judson.
