Grambling State University has state economic impact of $264 million
Grambling, La. -- Grambling State University
has an annual economic impact of $264 million and an $8 return for every
dollar of state investment, including $50 million from spending by faculty
and staff, and $71 million for student expenditures.
These numbers were released Monday as part of GSU’s Economic and Community
Impact Study report. The report focused on four key areas: spending, teaching,
research & service and quality of life.
“For generations, this university has been one of the primary economic engines in Lincoln Parish and the region,” President Horace Judson said. “Grambling State University provides jobs, trains future workforces, incubates businesses, creates and bolsters new industries, enriches the lives of residents through the arts and humanities, and sustains the financial stability of our community.”
GSU’s study was part of an eight-university study initiated in August 2008 to gauge the reach of University of Louisiana System institutions. “We are often asked what we do and why we matter. In this age of accountability, these are important questions that need to be answered,” Judson said.
One key point of the report found that GSU produces more computer and information sciences support graduates than any other state school. Also, over the past 10 years, the added value of GSU graduates in terms of increased taxable earnings is $453 million.
