GSU installs emergency phones throughout campus
Grambling,
La. -- When Grambling State University students, faculty and staff return
to GSU this fall, they will encounter a campus with significant safety enhancements,
thanks to the anticipated installation of 24 emergency phone stations.
Twelve emergency phones have been installed throughout the campus, and 12 additional phones are set to be installed before the fall semester begins in August.
The emergency phones are equipped with speakers and flashing blue lights to alert others in the immediate area that an emergency has been activated. Once a phone is activated, University Police are immediately notified of an emergency situation. These phones are critical to the safety of the university because they are highly visible and accessible in emergencies.
“By using emergency phones at key areas throughout campus, callers will help us enhance our response times,” said GSU Police Chief Craig Nance. “By their very nature, these phones can also help deter criminal behavior on campus.”
Phone stations are strategically located about the campus, including in areas outside student housing and near the center of campus across from Favrot Student Union.
