Grambling, LA –An exciting
groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday, May 23 at GSU for the new fine
arts building. Administrators, faculty, staff, students, members of the
University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, representatives from
the businees/commerce community and citizens from the Grambling community
in general, gathered for the 11:00 a.m. ceremony which set the tone for
the construction of the highly anticipated fine arts center.
The new building will replace the current facility (Dunbar Hall) which houses
the speech and theatre, music and art departments. Dunbar Hall was built
in the late 50's and is need of various repairs. The new building will house
all areas except art. The art wing was added to the Dunbar structure in
the late 70's. "Vision plus preseverance equals accomplishment,"
said President Judson as he greeted the crowd and expressed his appreciation
and excitement about the project.
Traxler Construction Company will construct the 62,000 square-foot state-of-the-art
facility which will feature various classrooms, laboratories, practice rooms,
office spaces, a library, storage, rehearsal and performance spaces. The
$10.2 million facility is scheduled to be completed in 18 months. Actual
construction will start next week.
