GSU police chief completes state peace officer training
Grambling,
La. -- Grambling State University Police Chief Craig Nance recently completed
police officer training certification at the North Delta Training Academy,
an accredited Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council
academy.
POST is responsible for developing and evaluating the curriculum of mandatory basic training courses for municipal officers, deputy sheriffs, state police, wildlife agents and all other persons commissioned as peace officers, defined by state law.
Nance joined GSU in Fall 2008 from Vanderbilt University’s Police Department, where he was a Precinct Commander. He was already certified in Tennessee, but was required to fulfill state requirements, which included taking a refresher course for Louisiana. The course included legal aspects of law enforcement, firearms training and a state exam.
Nance holds a bachelor’s degree in management and ethics from John Wesley College and a master’s degree in organizational management from the University of Phoenix. He also attended the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
