Tom Joyner tour comes to Grambling
GRAMBLING-----Twelve students, their parents
along with members of the Tom Joyner Foundation staff will be at Grambling
State University today and Friday for the Historically Black Colleges and
Universities (HBCU) college tour.
The comprehensive tour is designed to give high school seniors an opportunity
to visit Grambling State University and get detailed information on the
107 year-old institution. Students are chosen by the Foundation to visit
a college or university that they have an interest in attending after completing
high school. Each year eleven (11) colleges and universities are chosen
to participate in the School of the Month program by the Tom Joyner Foundation-which
aids the school in raising scholarship dollars, Grambling's month is August.
Prospective students will arrive today at the Shreveport regional airport
and will be greeted by GSU officials and student leaders. The visit will
include an overnight stay, breakfast with the president and university administrative
officials, campus tour, academic and student life presentations-providing
a complete overview of college life for the prospective students.
"We are looking forward to visiting with the students and their parents
as they make an historic visit to our campus," said GSU President,
Dr. Horace Judson.
Students from Illinois, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Louisiana, California,
Indiana and Maryland will be a part of the tour.
Dallas based, the Tom Joyner Foundation was established in 1998 as a means
of supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities. To date, the
Foundation has raised and given away more than $50 million to tommorrow's
leaders.
