H1N1(Swine) Flu
GRAMBLING----The emergence of the novel H1N1 (swine) flu virus poses challenges for colleges and universities around the country this fall. Grambling State University is carefully monitoring the constant developments of the flu activity and WILL FOLLOW the guidelines/recommendations established by the National Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
The novel H1N1 virus demonstrates an ability to cause serious illness among people between the ages of 6 to 26. The influenza (H1N1) is different than seasonal flu. A vaccine is still in development and is expected to be available by mid-October.
Recommendations to avoid H1N1:
- Wash hands OFTEN with soap and water
- Use alchol-based hand sanitizers
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
- Cough and sneeze into your sleeve
- Avoid sharing food, drinks or cigarettes
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
- Get immunized as soon as a vaccine becomes available
SYMPTONS FOR H1N1:
- Fever over 100 degrees
- Cough or sore throat
- Headache
- Chills
- Body Aches
- Fatigue
- Diarrhea and vomitting (occassionaly)
