Open house features nursing simulation laboratory

GRAMBLING----The GSU School of Nursing will host an open house on Tuesday afternoon, September 29 from 1 to 4 featuring its ultra-modern simulation laboratory which is located in rooms 119 and 250 of the School of Nursing building, 1 Cole Street.
The state-of-the-art simulation laboratory, which was funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant, offers students realistic patient care scenarios. The human patient simulators found in this laboratory are computerized mannequins that talk, breathe, moan and maintain a pulse. The laboratory also includes a simulated intensive care unit and a birthing unit. According to Dr. Afua Arhin, Associate Dean of the School of Nursing and the author of the grant, "Simulation education challenges and tests the nursing students' technical, clinical and critical thinking skills during realistic care scenarios. Additionally, simulation exercises offer faculty the ability to create alternative clinical experiences and provide students the opportunity to practice psychomotor skills."
Free of charge, the public is invited to attend open house. For more information, contact: Dr. Arhin by phone at (318) 274-2632 or Steve Jordan at (318) 274-2871 and by e-mail arhina@gram.edu or jordans@gram.edu.
