Princeton faculty member, GSU grad to present research forum
GRAMBLING-----Princeton University Assistant Sociology & African-American Studies Professor Angel L. Harris, a 1997 Grambling State University graduate, will present a research forum at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Black and Gold Room of Favrot Student Union as part of a three-day campus visit Monday through Wednesday.
In addition to Tuesday’s research forum, the Department of Sociology and Psychology will sponsor a Student Research Forum at 4 p.m. Monday featuring students who participated in 2008 summer research programs.
Harris’ topic on Tuesday is “I (Don’t) Hate School: Revisiting the ‘Oppositional Culture’ Theory.” Harris will address the black-white academic achievement gap and the Asian-white academic achievement gap.
After earning his bachelor's degree in psychology at Grambling, Harris received a master's degree in sociology at Kansas State University and a Ph.D. in public policy and sociology from the University of Michigan. After one year as an assistant professor at the University of Texas-Austin, Harris joined the Princeton faculty in 2007.
