College of Education presents 3rd Annual Research Symposium

GRAMBLING-----Dr. Lisa Delpit, renowned scholar and executive director of the Center for Urban Education and Innovation at Florida International University, will be the keynote speaker at the College of Education’s 3rd Annual Research Symposium March 26-27, 2009 at the Favrot Student Union. Delpit is the author of several books, including her latest, “The Skin that We Speak: Thoughts on Language and Culture in the Classroom,” which was published this year.

This year’s symposium will address ways in which professionals from various disciplines, particularly education, inform best practices in rural P-12 schools. It will also explore collaboration between educators and human-service practitioners to assist in the holistic development of the rural P-12 learner. The deadline to submit proposals is Nov. 17, and letters of notification will be mailed after the review process is completed on Nov. 21. The abstracts of selected proposals will be reprinted and published in the College of Education 3rd Annual Research Symposium Schedule.

“We are excited to have an esteemed scholar such as Dr. Delpit address our symposium,” said Dr. Sean Warner, dean of the College of Education. “We are also looking forward to the excellent research presentations this year.”
