Bayou Classic victory sends GSU to SWAC Championship Game

GSU nation, pack your bags. In a few days, your No. 1-ranked Grambling State University Football Tigers are headed east down Interstate 20 to Birmingham, Ala., where they will seek revenge on Jackson State University in the 2008 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Game.
By beating Southern University 29-14 in the 35th Annual State Farm Bayou Classic on Nov. 29, GSU won the SWAC West Division title and earned the right to meet JSU on Dec. 13 in a rematch of last year’s game won by Jackson State.
Sophomore Quarterback Greg Dillon was named the Bayou Classic’s Most Valuable Player, rushing for 136 yards and passing for 151 yards.
Second-year Head Coach Rod Broadway credited his team and the coaching staff for the victory, his first at the Bayou Classic. After the win, Grambling moved to the No. 1 ranking in both the Sheridan and Boxtorow.com/BASN polls.
Now it’s time for students, faculty, staff and alumni to focus on the Dec. 13 game at Birmingham’s Legion Field. Tiger fans are encouraged to support GSU’s quest to bring home a SWAC championship in Birmingham.
