GSU announces Fall 2007 commencement exercises

GRAMBLING, La. — Grambling State University will hold its annual Fall commencement exercises Friday morning, December 14 at 10:00 in the Grambling Assembly Center.

275 students will be conferred undergraduate and graduate degrees during the ceremony. A special presentation will be made to the highest ranking graduate for this semester, Krystin Mariell Frazier from Grambling. Frazier, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Young is a mass communication major-posting a 3.93 grade point average.

Dr. Leon Whittaker, dean emeritus of graduate studies and a GSU alumnus, will be the keynote speaker. Whittaker worked at GSU for more than 25 years as a counselor, professor of education, director of career counseling and placement, dean of students, vice-president for student affairs and at the time of his retirement in 1984, he was serving as dean of graduate studies.

He earned a doctorate in education from Washington State University, a master's of arts from Michigan State University and his bachelor's of science from Grambling State University.

An ordained minister, Dr. Whittaker resides in Grambling and serves on the executive board of the Ouachita Valley Council and Boy Scouts of America. Married to the former Clarice Jordan, they have four children.
