Dallas minister to speak at GSU Commencement
More than 200 to graduate during fall semester

Fall 2008 GSU Commencement Speaker, Rev. Dr. Fredrick Haynes IIIGRAMBLING – The Rev. Dr. Fredrick Haynes III, senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, will deliver the keynote address for the fall commencement exercises at Grambling State University, 10 a.m., Dec. 19 in the University Assembly Center.

More than 200 candidates will receive undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Under his leadership, the 31-year-old church has grown from an estimated 500 members to more than 8,000 members. The church has 45 full and part-time employees.

Haynes is actively involved in the Dallas community. He is vice-president of the African-American Pastors Coalition and former board member of the Dallas Urban League.

A member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Haynes also serves on the honorary committee of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Project Foundation, Washington, D.C. and is the executive secretary of the Evangelism Board of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

He earned a Bachelor of arts in religion and English from Dallas' Bishop College, a Master's of divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctorate in ministry from Oxford University-England.

He is married to the former Debra Peek. Their daughter is Abeni Jewel.
