MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Academic Skills Center is to provide a learning environment that allows students the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve academic success.
OVERVIEW
The Academic Skills Center works in collaboration with deans, department heads, and faculty from degree granting colleges and schools to fulfill the Center’s mission. By partnering with the faculty and responding to student needs, the Center provides a supportive learning community that helps students achieve their academic potential.
SERVICES
COMPUTER LABORATORIES
A total of three computer laboratories are available for student use. Each
laboratory serves a specific function and has an on-site student monitor.
The seating capacity for each laboratory is seventeen. A list of functions
and locations of each laboratory is identified below.
Hours of Operation:
Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Mathematics Laboratory – Brown Hall, Room 205
Computer-assisted programs allow students to progress at their own pace. These step-by-step programs enable students to review course material, learn new concepts, and reinforce previously covered concepts. By providing immediate feedback and customized drills and exercises, students are able to address problem areas and strengthen their skills. - English/Writing Laboratory/General Use Laboratory –
Brown Hall, Room 202
This laboratory provides computer-assisted programs which aid students in the acquisition of basic skills in grammar, vocabulary and development. Additionally, students may use laboratory computers to complete homework and projects and to conduct research via the Internet. - Career Laboratory/General Use Laboratory – Brown
Hall, Room 239
Students may explore their career options through interactive comprehensive Internet based programs and career data bases that analyze students’ interests and suggest a variety of career options for students to consider.
GROUP STUDY ROOMS
The Academic Skills Center offers group study rooms. These rooms are available
on a first-come basis. They may be reserved by contacting Ms. Moss at (318)
274-2323.

- MATH 132 Trigonometry
