MISSION
The Mission of the High Ability Program at Grambling State University is to offer an enrichment program for high school juniors (rising seniors) who have exemplified outstanding academic standards throughout their high school years. These Students will be able to receive seven college credit hours in English, mathematics, and vocal music or physical education activity. The High Ability Program not only strives to offer a superb educational experience, but also to promote individual growth and development.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be eligible, an eleventh grade student (Rising Senior) must the following criteria:
- A minimum 3.0 (4.0 scale) grade point average.
- Submit an official transcript of at least five semesters. Transcripts should include school seal or signature of school official. Cumulative grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale) should be indicated on the transcript.
- Submit an official letter of recommendation from your high school principal, counselor or teacher on school letterhead.
- Submit application for admission and housing form available online at www.gram.edu. *There is no application fee and no housing deposit required.
DATE OF PROGRAM
This program is a five-week session. The program will begin on June 27, 2009 and end July 29, 2009. The deadline to apply for the High Ability Program is April 17, 2009.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Full and Partial scholarships are available.
- A limited number of FULL scholarships will be awarded to students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above based on a 4.0 scale. Full scholarships cover tuition, room and board (It does not cover books and travel).
- A limited number of PARTIAL scholarships will be awarded to students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0-3.29 (4.0 scale), which covers tuition only. The cost for room and board is $564 and is subject to change.
FEES
All students are required to pay $500.00 for activities and travel. The $500.00 activity fee is due upon acceptance into the program. Each student is responsible for purchasing his/her books.
COURSES
Course offerings will include English, mathematics (Calculus), a vocal music program or orientation seminars. Students will receive a total of seven credit hours of instruction, which will consist of lectures, academic skills laboratory work, and tutorials.
HOUSING
All participants will be housed on campus in female and male dormitories.
MEALS
The University dining facility will provide meals.
LOCATION
Grambling State University is located in Grambling, Louisiana, off Interstate 20, seventy (70) miles east of Shreveport and thirty-five (35) miles west of Monroe.
