Department of Chemistry


The Department of Chemistry provides students with the background to needed to enter graduate school, medical or dental school, pursue careers as professional chemist, or careers as high school teachers.

FACULTY:

The Department of Chemistry has five full-time tenured track faculty with terminal degrees and one full-time instructor/laboratory coordinator. The expertise of the faculty represents all of the core areas of chemistry (more faculty)

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:

Students are encouraged to participate in on- and off- campus research projects. On-campus research projects include Nitric Oxide Free Radical Reactions, Polymer Synthesis, Polymer Rheology, and Coal Slurry energy related research. Students also frequently participate in research projects at Dow Chemical, Baton Rough, LA; Philip Morris, Richmond, VA; Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA; Tulane University, New Orleans, LA; and NASA.
