What is TeachGSU?

TeachGSU is Grambling State University’s initiative to identify ambitious, self-motivated individuals who want to positively affect north Louisiana by becoming certified teachers.

TeachGSU combines challenging coursework, hands-on experience in the classroom, and the benefit of receiving a secure income while teaching full-time in our communities’ schools.

TeachGSU allows goal-driven, dedicated individuals to teach, earn a salary, and pursue certification all at the same time. No previous education coursework or experience is required.

Who is TeachGSU for?

TeachGSU is not looking for a specific type of applicant. We want people who are leaders in their community and who possess the commitment, flexibility and drive necessary to achieve success in the classroom. We want professionals, recent college graduates, parents, and all individuals who understand the need for quality teachers in Louisiana. We want applicants who will become involved in their students’ lives. We want candidates who will use their experience and energy to ensure that all of our students excel academically. We want people of all ages, backgrounds, talents, and skills.

TeachGSU is seeking people with little or no teaching experience but who are committed to achieving success.

Are You Seeking an Alternate Route to Teacher Certification and Licensure?

• TeachGSU is an accelerated alternate path to licensure for nontraditional teachers who are interested in Elementary Grades 1-5 and Special Education Mild/Moderate 1-12. The program certifies participants to teach in elementary and special education classroom settings.

   

• All TeachGSU participants are required to accept a full-time teaching position in the Fall and Spring semesters in order to complete the program. The program includes high quality training, professional development and support for teachers in grades 1-5 and Mild/Moderate 1-12 classrooms.

   

• Components of TeachGSU include full-time employment in a local school district while completing accelerated coursework; hands-on experience with students in the classroom; and the assurance of a secure income.
