Educational Leadership Department
Welcome to the Department of Educational Leadership. The primary purpose of the Department of Educational Leadership is to offer advanced degree programs in education. The master’s and doctoral programs in developmental education prepare personnel for positions ranging from master teachers to executive-level leaders supervisors/ program coordinators, curriculum specialists, instructional /technology designers, department/unit heads, deans and vice presidents. More specifically, the department has a set of purposes that is multi-dimensional and service oriented in nature.
Due to a dire need for doctoral programs in North Louisiana to prepare PK-12 personnel for supervising roles in the elementary, middle and high school arena, the Board of Regents approved the consortium doctor of education degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership in 1992. The degree is offered through the collaborative efforts of Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech University and The University of Louisiana at Monroe. Moreover, the coordination of this program is through the Louisiana Education Consortium Governing Board. Students are required to complete all coursework on the three campuses as a means of promoting diverse academic experiences.
The Department of Educational Leadership has as its mission the preparation of personnel for positions ranging from teaching to administrative and supervisory positions in education-related and other human service settings.
Its purposes include, but are not limited to:
- preparing professionals in the field of developmental education for teaching and leadership roles in colleges/universities, private industry, government, business and human service settings.
- preparing professionals for roles in elementary, middle and secondary school settings.
- providing instruction in educational administration and supervision for students seeking certification in principalship and instructional supervision.
The Department of Educational Leadership has responsibility for six graduate programs: Master of Science (M.S.) and the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Developmental Education; Master of Education in Educational Leadership; Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction; and Post Masters Certificate in Developmental Education.
