ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Admission to Grambling State University School of Graduate Studies & Research.
  2. Bachelor’s degree with at least 2.50 cumulative GPA
  3. Possess a graduate degree from any regionally accredited college/university
  4. Passing Praxis II with the following scores in a specific content area
    1. Elementary Education Grades 1-5
    2. Secondary Education Grades 6-12 in Biology, Chemistry, English, Mathematics, or Physics. Passing scores vary according to the exam.
    3. Mathematics – 159
  5. A completed MAT Application Packet

How will you use your previous experiences to ensure high academic achievement for your students?
Three letters of recommendation: at least one from an individual in supervisory position who can attest to your ability to work with elementary students and/or secondary students.

CERTIFICATION AREAS

MAT offers two certification areas:

Elementary Education Integrated to Merged:
A grade 1-5 is an intensive 42-credit hour program. 

Secondary Education Integrated to Merged:
Grades 6-12 is an intensive 39-credit hour program offering certification in the following subject areas:

  • Biology
  • Math
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • English 

For secondary certification, applicants must have either a degree or 30 credit hours in the chosen subject area. Applicants can be admitted conditionally with at least 15 hours of the chosen subject area with the understanding that the remaining 15 hours must be completed before completing the program. Courses must be 100 level or above with a grade of C or better.
