November 4, 2008
Dear Alumni and
Friends:
What an historic day for America! With Americans electing their first African-American President of the United States, we and others will discuss this historic day for years to come. We have learned much from President-Elect Barack Obama about running campaigns and understanding that Americans, young and old, are communicating with one another online and utilizing technology to support their favorite charities or other worthwhile fundraising projects.
How can we at Grambling State University and alumni apply lessons learned from Obama’s campaign? During the first quarter of 2005, the university installed a special feature on two university websites that enabled alumni, faculty, staff and friends nationwide to “GIVE” online to support any college, department, scholarship or university project at GSU. In early 2008, an Alumni Website was designed and made available for use by alumni and the community-at-large to learn not only about current and future on or off-campus events, but also to register and pay registration fees online for official university events of interest.
Grambling State University has adopted a 21st-century model with respect to how we communicate with you. Technology allows us to significantly expand the reach, frequency and timeliness of our communications with minimal expense. Last month alone, the site received over 19,500 visitors, our largest month since the website went live in March 2008.
Alumni giving, during the period ending June 30, 2008, grew by 105% over the same time in 2005. Moreover, gifts from faculty and staff increased by 480% in 2008 when compared to 2005.
We invite you to join the effort of the Administration, faculty and staff
of GSU, once again, by making an online donation to support the Comprehensive
Capital Campaign. Our needs are great but the benefits to our students today
and years to come are enormous. As President-Elect Obama proved during his
campaign, no gift amount is ever too small. All gifts will help a GSU student
in some manner. As the 2008 tax year comes to an end, we ask you to click
on the blinking “GIVE” button below and donate to GSU today!
