Dr. Michael D. McKinley
Executive Assistant to the President
Dr. Michael D. McKinley is Executive Assistant to the President. He is a member of the President’s Cabinet and works closely with the President, providing assistance and advice. He manages a wide variety of activities and serves as the liaison to members of the administration, faculty, staff, various organizations, the University of Louisiana System, and the public.
Prior to his appointment at Grambling State University, Dr. McKinley served as Associate Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations for Union Institute & University (UI&U). He also served UI&U as Assistant Dean for Administration.
Before joining Union Institute & University, Dr. McKinley served as Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Baltimore City Community College, where he was responsible for all institutional development efforts, including fund raising, alumni relations, public relations, government relations, marketing, media, and publications.
Dr. McKinley also served as Executive Assistant to the President at Towson University where he handled matters of policy and institutional importance on behalf of the President.
He began his career in higher education as an associate professor at The Pennsylvania State University where he taught broadcast and telecommunications courses and served on university-wide committees.
A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Dr. McKinley has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Political Science from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan; a Master of Arts degree in Public Communication from The American University of Washington, D.C., and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Communication from The Union Institute of Ohio.
Dr. McKinley is active in a number of civic and professional associations including the Ruston, Louisiana Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors, the American Council on Education and the Association of State Colleges and Universities. He is actively involved in fund raising for Grambling State University and select community projects and continues to write, present, and speak professionally.
