June 2009

Even though we are living in difficult financial times, our vision at Grambling State University includes numerous supporting objectives, with a focus on “Our Legacy. Our Place. Our Future.” Like other organizations and institutions, GSU has to adjust to the economic crisis, but I have every confidence that as the world markets begin to stabilize, the University will benefit and remain a financially strong institution.
It is important to note that GSU is much stronger than it was five years ago. Through your devoted efforts, we have made enormous progress. We have renovated and rebuilt our facilities, expanded access by offering more financial aid, and recruited a group of distinguished faculty across the disciplines and professions. We have also attracted more than 500 international students to campus who represent more than 48 countries. We have also experienced other significant milestones:
- GSU’s football team captured the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship and was crowned 2008 “Sheridan Black College National Champions.”
- Our “World Famed” Tiger Marching Band was Louisiana’s only representative to participate in the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C.
- Spring 2009 – Opening of the new Performing Arts Center will provide a new home for GSU’s Music and Drama Departments.
- Fall 2009 – Opening of the Eddie G. Robinson Museum, converted from the former Women’s Gymnasium.
In all these efforts, we are supported and enabled by the thousands of alumni and friends who have contributed to Grambling State University’s Comprehensive Capital Campaign, and whose contributions have remained steady through the first months of this economic downturn.
And even though our endowment is feeling far-reaching effects of the recession, the University continues to support faculty chairs, scholarship and academic programs that have made us stronger in the face of financial adversity.
Grambling State University today is an institution of which we can all be justifiably proud. Thanks to your valuable contributions, Grambling can continue to serve the nation and the world by advancing knowledge and educating the most talented and promising students for leadership and service.
Thanks, again, to all of you who have donated to GSU in support of many
programs and initiatives. We urge your continued support by sending your
pledges today. See attached pledge
form or the "Give" button to donate today.
