In the development of the plan for the transition from open admissions to selectivity, the University has developed strategies to assist students who do not meet the criteria. Any student who does not meet the criteria for admission will be given options that will allow the student to meet the standards. These options may involve participation in the Charles P. Adams Bridge-to-College (ABC) Program, or attendance and satisfactory academic course work at a community college.
The Charles P. Adams Bridge-to-College Program is designed to assist students who did not follow the college preparatory curriculum in high school and who desire to meet minimum admissions standards at Grambling State University.
Named for the founder of the institution that would become Grambling State University (GSU), the Adams Bridge-to-College (ABC) Program is an integral component of the University’s mission and historic commitment to educational opportunity. The ABC Program consists of a curriculum and support elements which have been developed to meet the academic needs of students who want to meet the admissions criteria and enter college well prepared. The Program is offered in two intensive four-week sessions that occur during the summer school sessions of the University. Each class meets for three hours per day and tutorials are provided. The credit that is earned is noted on the student’s transcript; however, this credit does not count toward requirements for graduation. Students who successfully pass the courses taken with a grade of “C” or higher will be offered admission to the University.
Applications to the ABC Program may be obtained by contacting the Office of Admissions and Recruitment at 318.274.6183. Completed applications, including a nonrefundable application fee of $20.00, must be submitted by May 11th. This program is open to students who have applied for admission and have been rejected, and who have been informed by the Office of Admissions and Recruitment that they can meet the standards by using the ABC Program. Other students who seek admission may be advised to use the ABC Program. All students who use this program should do so only after consulting with an admissions counselor at Grambling State University.
This program does not offer scholarships nor can the costs be met using federal financial aid. The tuition and fee charges are the same as for other courses offered during summer school. Please consult the fee sheet for the 2008 summer school for all fees including room and board costs. In this special program, students may take as many as two courses per session in order to meet the admissions criteria.
If you do not meet the current admissions criteria and want to attend Grambling State University, you should enroll in the ABC Program. You can enroll by submitting your ABC application to the Admissions Office. You must call the Admissions Office and speak with the admissions counselor responsible for advising students about this program.
The curriculum for the Adams Bridge-to-College Program (ABC) includes courses in foreign language (Spanish & French), Algebra II, and Physical Science.
