IN-STATE RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
(Effective May 1, 2008)

For tuition purposes, new students from other states (U.S. citizens) may be considered residents of Louisiana when registering for admittance to Grambling State University provided they satisfy the following minimum criteria:

  1. Students must first satisfy the admission requirements of the institution.
  2. Additional minimum admission criteria include

    First-time freshmen

    Spring & Summer 20010
    a) ACT of 17 (SAT 820) and GPA of 2.5 (un-weighted, on 4.0 scale), or
    b) ACT of 18 (SAT 860) and GPA of 2.3 (un-weighted, on 4.0 scale), or
    c) ACT of 19 (SAT 900) and GPA of 2.0 (un-weighted, on 4.0 scale).
    (Note: SAT requirement is the combined Verbal and math scores)

    Fall 2010
    a) ACT of 21 (SAT 980) and GPA of 2.5 (un-weighted, on 4.0 scale), or
    b) ACT of 22 (SAT 1020) and GPA of 2.3 (un-weighted, on 4.0 scale), or
    c) ACT of 23 (SAT 1050) and GPA of 2.0 (un-weighted, on 4.0 scale).
    (Note: SAT requirement is the combined Verbal and math scores)

    Transfer students (who have completed at least 12 credits of college level work):
    a) Cumulative GPA of 2.5 on college level work, and
    b) Have no need for developmental course work, and
    c) Be eligible to return to previous institution.

    Spirit Group. A student with high achievement in dance, debate, music, or theater performance may be granted in-state residency if that student’s performance will improve the educational opportunities of other students. The student must satisfy the previously described requirements and meet each of the following criteria:
    a) High achievement in the appropriate performance area
    b) Cumulative GPA of 2.5 and at least 24 semester hours of college work. If applying prior to entering college: un-weighted GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale) in high school.
    c) Demonstrate leadership
    d) Receive a satisfactory rating in a personal interview with the Admissions Committee.

  3. Students must earn 12 credit hours each semester to be eligible to continue this resident fee status. Note: Students in the Spirit Group have additional conditions to meet. (Please contact the Admissions Office for details).
  4. Students may remain eligible to retain the waiver as long as they maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by Grambling State University (this includes earning a minimum 2.0 GPA each semester).

Non-academically, a student will qualify regardless of high school or college GPA (transfer student) if:

  1. One of the biological parents graduated from Grambling State University
  2. Living with a biological parent who is an established resident of Louisiana
  3. Parent is a current member of the armed forces (not Reserve or Guard) and the home of record is Louisiana
  4. Student receives an associate or higher degree from Grambling State University.
