Fee Waiver Information


OUT-OF-STATE FEE WAIVER INFORMATION

Effective for the following terms:

  • Fall 2013 semester
  • Spring 2014 semester
  • 2014 summer I & II sessions

For tuition purposes, new students from other states (U.S. citizens) may be considered to have some or all of their out-of-state fees waived when registering for admittance, provided they satisfy the following minimum criteria:

  1. Students must first satisfy the admission requirements.
     
  2. Students must demonstrate a financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid Office.
     
  3. Students must complete the out-of-state fee waiver application after being admitted to the university, and submit it with all required documents.  The fee waiver application and accompanying documents cannot be faxed.
     
  4. Additional minimum admission criteria include:

    First-time freshmen (with under 12 credits of college level work completed) must have one of the following test score/GPA combinations:

  5. ACT Composite SAT Composite Overall GPA
    (on 4.0 scale)
    21 980 2.50
    22 1020 2.30
    23 1050 2.00

    Note: The SAT equivalent includes the combined SAT Critical Reading (Verbal) and Math scores.

    Student must submit a 2-page, typewritten essay about your career goals and aspirations.  The fee waiver application will not be accepted without the required essay.

    Transfer students (at least 12 credits of college-level work completed):

    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 on college-level work, and
    • Have no need for developmental course work, and
    • Be eligible to return to their previous institution.
    • Have no need for developmental course
     
  6. Students receiving the out-of-state fee waiver/exemption must sign a statement of understanding which outlines the conditions of retaining the waiver/exemption.
     
  7. Grambling State University reserves the right to limit the overall number of out-of-state fee waivers/exemptions granted.
     
  8. The maximum time allowed for the out-of-state fee status is four (4) consecutive years.
     

    Special Achievement Consideration (SPIRIT):

  1. Non-resident, undergraduate students (U.S. citizens) with high achievement in dance performance, or debate, or visual arts, or music performance, or theater performance may be considered a resident of Louisiana for tuition/fee purposes, if it is deemed that the students’ presence will improve the educational opportunities of other students.  Cheerleaders, flag corps, university-recognized or sponsored spirit groups that perform at athletic game activities, and the SGA president, may also be considered in this group.  The applying student must meet each of the following criteria:
     
    1. New students must first satisfy the admission requirements.
    2. Students must demonstrate a financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid Office.
    3. Demonstrate high achievement in the appropriate performance area.
    4. Continuing students: Must have a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.50 (4.0 scale), and at least 24 semester hours of college-level work.  First-time freshmen: Must have a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.50 (4.0 scale) and a minimum ACT composite of 21 or its SAT equivalent (Verbal and Math scores combined).
    5. Demonstrate leadership.
    6. Receive a satisfactory rating in an interview.  Interview must be documented and submitted with the request for out-of-state fee waiver/exemption.
    7. Commit to participate in the appropriate performance area.
       
  2. Upon approval of the SPIRIT out-of-state fee waiver/exemption, the group director must have students sign a statement of understanding which outlines the conditions of retaining the out-of-state fee waiver/exemption.  The statement must be kept on file in the group director’s office for the duration of the waiver/exemption.
     
  3. Grambling State University reserves the right to limit the overall number of out-of-state fee exemptions/waivers granted.
     
  4. The maximum time allowed for the out-of-state fee status is four (4) consecutive years.
