RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:
Students are encouraged to participate in on- and off- campus research projects. On-campus research projects include Nitric Oxide Free Radical Reactions, Polymer Synthesis, Polymer Rheology, and Coal Slurry energy related research. Students also frequently participate in research projects at Dow Chemical, Baton Rough, LA; Philip Morris, Richmond, VA; Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA; Tulane University, New Orleans, LA; and NASA.
CURRICULUM:
The chemistry program is fully certified by the Committee of Professional Training of the American Chemical Society (ACS). The Department offers the bachelor of science degree, which can be obtained by following one of the two curricula. The "Professional" concentration follows the guidelines set forth by the American Chemical Society. It is prescribed for students who wish to prepare for graduate careers as professional chemist. The "General" concentration allows the student more flexibility in the science courses that are taken and is structured to accommodate those interested in satisfying professional requirements for medicine, dentistry, and similar programs.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:
The University and the Department of Chemistry offers students a variety of financial aid packages. These include scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study. For more complete information please contact:
