A.C. Lewis Memorial Library – Annual Research Contest

Once again, it is time for the A. C. Lewis Memorial Library Contest, designed to test your research knowledge.

iSkills Test: -TEST YOUR LIBRARY RESEARCH KNOWLEDGE

Critical thinking in a digital world: The ability to navigate, critically evaluate, and logical sense of the wealth of information available through digital technology.

TEST YOUR LIBRARY RESEARCH KNOWLEDGE

  1. Name a minimum of 5 major databases in your field of study/discipline. Explain why these databases are related to your program/major.
  2. There is a saying that goes, “if the desirable is not available then the available becomes the desirable.” As a student, your instructor asked you to do a research paper and particularly instructed you to use specific peer reviewed research articles for the assignment.
In relation to authoritative sources, do you believe that if the desirable research information is not available therefore, the available research material becomes the desirable?

    1. If your answer is “yes” why?
    2. If your answer is “no” why?
  3. Recently, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scientists found evidence of flowing water on Mars. According to researchers, the discovery raises the chances of being home to some form of life. Scientists are unsure where the water comes from, either underground ice, salty aquifers, or condense out of the thin Martian atmosphere. The image/chart above, tells you that the library uses Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) indexing system for print resources. Therefore, for this new NASA discovery, please tell us where specifically in the library would you focus your research search to help improve retrieval performance and why. Also, provide two major references retrieved from your focus library classification areas and cite the research materials retrieved using the APA format.

Please send in your answers by Wednesday, October 31, 2018.

Submit your answers to grigsbyj@gram.edu

Provide your full name, G#, your major, classification, address, email, and phone number where you can be reached.

Rewards/Prizes:
