Undergraduate. Admission to the Department of Kinesiology, Sport, and Leisure Studies has several steps; the first of which is being fully admitted to the University. Should your score be less than 15 on the ACT, you will report to the College of Basic and Special Studies (CBSS) for advisement. To exist CBSS, you must complete 23 credit hours. The exception to this process is that your score on the ACT is 16 or greater. In which case, you will report directly to your department of intended major for advisement.
When the credit hours in CBSS have been completed, you should retrieve your CBSS student folder and transfer the folder to the department of intended major. A department advisor will be assigned. This faculty member will be your advisor throughout your student tenure. If you scored 16 or greater on the ACT, your student folder will already be in the department of intended major.
In the department, there is a minimum grade point average requirement per degree program. If your major is health and physical education, the minimum grade point average is 2.5. If your major is leisure studies, the minimum grade point average is 2.3. If your major is sport administration, as a graduate student, the minimum grade point average is 3.0. All averages are based on a 4.0 academic grading scale.
The next steps include having your assigned advisor to complete and return the Admission to the College of Education Form for processing. Finally, you should consult with your advisor on the department required “student interview.” The interview is scheduled during the junior year. Two to four department faculty converse with you regarding your reason(s), your philosophy of choosing the particular degree program as a major. Satisfactory completion of this phase will allow formal admission in the Department of Kinesiology, Sport, and Leisure Studies. To this we say—WELCOME.
Graduate. The first step in this process is having completed a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. You will then need to meet admission requirements set by Grambling State University and the School of Graduate Studies. You are encouraged to contact the School of Graduate Studies at 318.274.2158 for admission information. However, once admission requirements are met, you should identify the graduate program of study, and report to that program’s advisor. Call us at 318.274.2294.
