May I first say that it is indeed a privilege (for me) to have the opportunity to serve as department head. The faculty and I enjoy preparing tomorrow’s leaders in health and physical education, leisure studies and sport administration. We enjoy the challenge of developing programs of study reflecting market demands and meeting accreditation standards of specialized professional associations, corporating principles of best practice in the field-of-preparation. Our goal is to graduate competent, skilled majors who can meet, if not exceed, performance expectations set by employing agencies and organizations. Our focus is employment retention and upward mobility.

Our motto is: HPE/LS/SPA students are special, achieving, succeeding and serving. In all phases of department activities, the faculty accentuates striving to be the best that one can be. Not only do we want the University to be the place where everybody is somebody, we also want our department to be a haven of learning, where faculty and students interface on issues and trends in the subject-field, where research is conducted, where publishing and grant writing are pursued, where active involvement in professional organizations is routine, where presentations are made at conferences, where community service is a matter of course and where student/faculty scholarship is the norm.

On behalf of the faculty, students and staff, an invitation is extended to visit and converse with us regarding one of our marketable degree programs. We want our students to graduate to employment or enroll in graduate school.
