DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics  

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors degree is required and a Masters preferred. A background in journalism is preferred. Successful marketing experience in college Sports Information is preferred. The ability to work with media, coaches, athletic administrators, student-athletes, the student body, faculty, and alumni. Excellent writing and verbal communications skills are necessary. Candidates should be computer literate and knowledge of statistical software is beneficial.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures as related to media relations, ensuring the integrity and public image of the intercollegiate athletics program
  • Oversee the budget for operating the Media Relations Office and ensure budgetary compliance through economical and efficient management
  • Serve as the public relations representative and spokesperson in the absence of the Athletic Director for the department to include making public appearances as requested
  • Work in conjunction with the University's Director of Public and Media Relations as needed
  • Coordinate writing, editing, publication and distribution of sports Information to include press releases, feature articles, media guides, game notes, special promotional publications, website articles, etc
  • Serve as liaison for outside broadcasting entities as it relates to GSU TV, web streaming, stadium video, etc
  • Maintain working relationships with sports editors and beat reporters with newspaper, radio, and television media outlets, to include defining procedures for interviews with coaches, student-athletes, and administrators
  • Conduct yearly and as needed interview technique seminars for incoming freshman student-athletes, coaches, and staff
  • Serve as a clearinghouse for all interview request with coaches, student-athletes, and athletic department personnel
  • Coordinate arrangements for photography, to include photographic sessions for sport teams, coverage of athletic events and special events
  • Ensure the preparation, maintenance and distribution of current statistical records where applicable, as well as historical archives for all intercollegiate sports
  • Serve as liaison for the Eddie G. Robinson Museum
  • Serve as the senior editor and writer for information to be posted on the athletic commercial website
  • Develop and implement long-range and short-range plans for Media Relations Office
  • Perform other duties as outlined by the Director of Athletics
