DEPARTMENT: Office of Retention  

QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in an academic discipline is required but preferably a master's and at least three years of college level experience (work as a graduate assistant is appropriate). The selected candidate must have the ability to maximize time on task, follow tasks to completion, and meet dealines. Must demonstrate organizational skills with the ability to focus on details, thoroughness, and accuracy. The desired candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and students. The candidate must be able to assist in planning, implementing and evaluating the Retention Program.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Assist with the Peer Mentoring and Peer Tutoring Program
  • Contact and schedule meetings with Peer Mentor/Peer Tutors
  • Plan and organize work to ensure completion of task in a timely manner
  • Assist in workshop training for mentors/tutors
  • Serve as liaison between the Office of Retention and faculty advisors
  • Assist with the Early Alert On-line Referral Program and follow-up on students who are referred by advisor
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
  • Contact all students working in the Retention Program, organize and monitor student's assigned time to report to work
  • Supervise all mail outs and labels
  • Follow-up and contact on student's who were mailed letters and monitor their progress
  • Work with the Financial Aid on the SAP policy
  • Counsel and advise students on academic, personal and career related topics that are pertinent to college retention and graduation
  • Attend meetings as designated by the Director
  • Assist with completing all objectives and strategies for the Retention Plan
  • Must work at least two evenings per week
