DEPARTMENT: Mass Communication  

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. degree in Film Studies or a closely related discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of teaching and/or professional experience in the field. Candidates with ABD in Film Studies or Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Film and Video Production or Telecommunications with at least five years of teaching and/or professional experience will be considered. A commitment to the academic achievement of a diverse student population. An excellent academic record and evidence of potential to make significant contributions to the field of film studies. A commitment to teaching and successful development of majors in the discipline.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach courses in film studies, as assigned
  • Serve and provide assistance on all committees to which he/she is assigned
  • Engage in scholarly work and to involve students in this work whenever feasible
  • Assist the Department Head in increasing the number of majors in the department
  • Assist with curriculum reviews and analysis at the department/college/university level
  • Attend faculty meetings, convocations, and commencements, and to participate in other official University functions when requested
  • Insure that all programs in the department have currency and that they contribute to the mission of the University
  • Assist with providing leadership and counsel for student organizations in the department
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Department Head, Dean of the College, and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
