DEPARTMENT: Comprehensive Counseling Center  

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate degree in counseling and/or related field. Licensure as a LMFT, LPC, and/or LCSW in the state of Louisiana or Louisiana-licensure eligible. A minimum of two (2) years experience working in a mental health setting required. The desired candidate also may be eligible if he or she is a counselor intern. Knowledge and clinical experience in the mental health profession. Strong clinical, communication, teaming, and public speaking and time management skills. Computer literacy and thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Must have the ability to pass background checks. Ability to handle confidential matters and a high degree of professional integrity required. Ability to work under pressure and with good supervisory skills, be a self-starter, innovative and demonstrate the capacity for maintaining high professional standards.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide individual, conjoint, or group couseling in the therapeutic process for GSU students; perform psychotherapy
  • Provide consultation and research on psychological, social, environmental, and organizational issues to faculty and staff regarding the psychological needs of GSU students
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of services
  • Particpate in program planning
  • Provide emergency psychological services during non-office hours
  • Accept referral from other departments
  • Plan and organize on-call rotation for after hours
  • Coordinate safety workshops for campus community
  • Maintain client files and documentation
  • Maintain correspondence and compile information
  • Prepare reports as assigned
  • Assess students' mental stability, refer to other agencies, and assist in research
  • Prepare documents for the institution and professional journals
  • Partcipate in professional development opportunities and in-service training
