DEPARTMENT: Accounting Department  

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, CIS, Finance, or a related field is required. Master's degree is preferred. We are seeking an individual with 5 to 10 years of collection experience and/or accounting experience. The desired candidate must have strong organizational skills, superior customer service skills, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, excellent data entry skills and be familiar with software programs such as Microsoft Office and SCT Banner. The successful candidate must have good communication skills, both oral and written, must be technology savvy and multi-tasked oriented, and have the ability to make sound decisions when faced with complex situations. The candidate should be comfortable working in a higher education setting, servicing students, parents, faculty, and staff, handling large amounts of cash and/or cash transactions. Must be available for periodic evening and weekend work. Must be able to follow guidelines, policies and procedures that have been set forth by the university, the Board of Trustees, ULS system, legislative/state auditors, and internal auditors. This position requires analysis, organization and consistent follow up with current/former students, current/former lab schools, and current/former faculty and staff, and collection agencies.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Analyze, review and assign delinquent accounts to external collection agencies on a semester basis or as needed in accordance with the university policies and procedures
  • Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and process student account adjustments
  • Assist with the development of new accounting procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the collections and receivable process
  • Assist with the development and update of manuals for accounting and computer applications
  • Assist with the Cashier functions, Student Registration, invoicing Third Parties and Student Billings and Collections
  • Communicate with collection agencies, students, parents, auditors, university administrators for the purpose of providing information regarding delinquent accounts and resolve issues relative to the accounts
  • Maintain collection accounts data on various Banner forms an post monthly bank wires for collection accounts on the student accounts
  • Investigate and resolve disputed delinquent accounts
  • Make daily bank trips to deposit university funds
  • Prepare financial reports and data to be submitted to the external collection agencies, auditors, and/or university personnel
  • Back up to other cashier/student account functions as needed
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
