The mission of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration is dedicated to maintaining an academic environment in which students can be actively engaged in the acquisition of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to advance themselves in all their endeavors. All programs of the department aim to enable students to engage in critical thinking and scientific analysis of problems, which will affect their lives, their families, and their communities. Students will develop competencies, which will prepare them with the means to make positive contributions toward improving the quality of life for all people. Specifically, the Department of Political Science and Public Administration strives to achieve the following: 1. To develop students’ understanding of the political issues and the ability to analyze political systems, modern political theories, political behavior, public administrations, international politics through the application of technology. 2. To educate students to analyze and interpret political, social and economic relationships, and processes, which determine the distribution of society’s resources. 3. To motivate and encourage students to acquire an understanding of nature and use of political, social, and economic resources. 4. To prepare students for professional careers or for further studies in political science, public administration, and other professional studies. The mission of the MPA program is 91) to prepare individuals for administrative careers in federal, state and local government services, as well as other organizations, in both public and non-profit areas; (2) to provide full-time and part-time students with intellectual insights, critical perspectives, professional competencies, and analytical tools crucial to their understanding of the field of public administration; (3) to provide training and education in the areas of public policy making analysis, implementation and analysis of human resource management, organizational theory, behavior, research method, budget and finance, principles and theories of public administration; (4) to offer in-service practitioners the opportunity to strengthen their analytic and problem solving skills to increase their possibilities for advancement as public administrators, and (5) to advance students’ knowledge of information systems technologies, and their application.
