GRAMBLING, LA – No longer the Black and Gold Foundation, the renamed organization, Grambling University Foundation, Inc., elected new officers at its last luncheon meeting. Grambling’s President Frank G. Pogue welcomed the Board of Directors and presented the university’s strategic planning report by having his Vice Presidents present key components of the strategic plan.
The newly elected officers for 2011 – 2012 are: Mrs. Helen Godfrey Smith, Chair, Shreveport, LA; Dr. Richard Rayford, Vice-Chair, Terry, MS; Mr. Ira Wayne McConnell, Treasurer, Houston, TX; and Dr. Janet Barnes, Secretary, New Orleans, LA.
Board Chair Helen Godfrey Smith states, “The current state budgetary issues indicate tough financial challenges for Grambling. The Grambling University Foundation is prepared to find innovative ways to attract financial resources to be sure that Grambling maintains its ability to produce graduates ready to compete on the global stage. Our efforts will be far-reaching and inclusive of all alumni and others who love and value the rich heritage of our university. We have a broad spectrum of fundraising plans to roll out over the next several months as well as a “Capital Campaign.” The name is an important component of our branding and allegiance.”
The Board of Directors will hold a planning retreat along with other board members this summer to further discuss foundation structure and business. The renamed foundation is ready to take charge and handle the tasks at hand.
