GRAMBLING, LA — Starting his second year as president at Grambling State University Dr. Frank G. Pogue is on track to meeting one of the 10 priorities set for the university. By 2015 Dr. Pogue and his administration plan to increase Grambling State University enrollment to 7,500 students. The 2011-12 academic year is getting off to a good start. Grambling’s preliminary enrollment report shows that enrollment has risen to 5,207 a 4.27% increase from the previous academic year.

In a recent interview, Dr. Pogue stated, “The increase is welcomed news because it is the best indicator that students and parents value the quality of education Grambling provides. It is a clear signal that the strength of our fully accredited academic programs and our highly competent faculty who are deeply committed to excellence and to maintaining a student centered learning environment.

Grambling State University has a goal to increase its undergraduate and graduate enrollment from 4,900 to 7,500 students in the next five (5) years. From all indications, we are moving toward achieving our enrollment goals.”

“We were able to increase our enrollment by utilizing a team approach. Faculty and staff worked with our Admissions/Recruitment team to convert the prospective student to a registered student. During the 2010 academic year, we reviewed our transfer student admissions policy. We revised the policy so that it supported a seamless transfer of community college students Grambling State University (GSU). The partnership that we entered into with Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) last year resulted in our getting our first cohort of students this fall. During the spring 2011 semester, 119 students were admitted BPCC @ GSU. These students attended BPCC @ GSU during the spring 2011 and summer sessions. This fall eight-one (81) BPCC @ GSU students were eligible to be fully admitted to Grambling State University,” states Provost, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Connie Walton.

During these difficult times Grambling State University has position itself to be a premier university that is cost effective for its students while they work towards achieving a top notch education.
