GSU Cross Country Teams Take First and Second in SWAC

Grambling, La – Grambling State won the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship in Men’s Cross Country at Mississippi College on Monday. The Tigers finished with 47 points, finishing the 8k event with a time of 2:15:56.80.

Individually, Darwin Price finished second with a time of. 26:06.22 and earned First Team All-Conference honors. Christopher Ruffin and Deonte Pope both finished in the top ten and took home Second Team All-Conference honors.

On the Women’s side the “Lady Tigers” finished second in the SWAC Championship race with a time of 1:40:43.22 and a score of 79 points. Shaquea Howard finished fourth in the Conference meet and picked up First Team All-Conference honors.

Head Coach Bertram Lovell earned SWAC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. This is the 27th championship for Coach Lovell in his career as the Head Track and Field Coach at Grambling State University and the 27th time that he has won SWAC Coach of the Year.
