GRAMBLING, LA – Grambling State University will host a solo art exhibit by senior art major Deleisa Brown, entitled "FEMIDENTITY." The exhibition will be held in Favrot Student Union on April 18-23, 2012.
Brown, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas explores ideas of feminine beauty and how a woman’s confidence is affected by social pressure to be “beautiful.” She presents simplified silhouettes of nude figures that focus on body contours and rhythmic movement rather than the body as a sexual object. Her belief is that all bodies are beautiful. She says women should identify with Cindy Olsen who said, “I am beautiful as I am. I am the shape that was gifted. My breasts are no longer perky and upright like when I was a teenager. My hips are wider than that of a fashion model, for this I am glad, these are the signs of a life lived.”
The public is invited to a reception for the artist on Monday, April 23, 2012, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Favrot Student Union, which is located on Main Street, Grambling LA. The Favrot Student Union hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
