GRAMBLING, LA – High school students, college students close to starting professional careers or heading to graduate school and professionals in search of other opportunities are invited to attend The Empowerment Exchange, the Bayou Classic’s official career and college expo.
The event will be Friday November 23 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans during one of the biggest football game weekends in the nation. The career fair begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. on the hotel’s second floor foyer. This event is free and open to the public.
A few of the companies scheduled to participate are Primerica Insurance, Virtuous Communications, INC., Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, the Dallas Police Department, Progressive Insurance and the United States Marine Corps. They will be hiring for full-time jobs, part-time jobs and internships.
In addition, several universities will be discussing undergraduate and/or graduate school options.

During the career fair, participants can also attend one of two HBCU Institute panel discussions. First Session, “Career Mapping,” will look at the transition from college to the early years in a new career. Sheba Turk, traffic reporter at WWL-TV’s Eyewitness Morning News in New Orleans will discuss how she spent time in the trenches at the TV station before getting her big break in front of the camera.
The other, “Hazing at HBCUs,” will feature CNN contributor and political analyst Roland Martin as he discusses the issue with Grambling State University President Frank G. Pogue, Southern University System President Ronald Mason, Jr. and Grambling and Southern students. Both sessions will be held in the hotel’s Empire Ballroom I. The first session will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the second session will begin at 2 p.m.
