University will share convocation online, smartphones for the first time; major digital announcement anticipated
GRAMBLING, LA. – For the first time, Grambling State University will have several ways that alumni, faculty, students can be a part of a fall convocation.
Under the leadership of President Frank G. Pogue, anyone can tune in online, on iPads, Kindles or on smartphones to watch the 11 a.m. event on August 29. “We would love to see all Grambling State University alumni and friends attend the first convocation of the year,” said President Frank G. Pogue, “but we know that many people are busy and we need to provide other ways people can join us. It’s time that we join the digital age, and I’m grateful that our engineering, technology and TV center staff are professionals who can make this happen.”
Pogue will provide an overview about university academics and operations, including addressing the serious financial situation in which the institution finds itself. State funding has declined from about $31 million in the 2008-2009 academic year to about $14 million in the 2013-2014 academic year, forcing a second year of employee layoffs and a major university realignment and restructuring. Vice presidents will share information about adjustments and changes in their respective areas of responsibility.
In addition, the president will make a major digital announcement, one sure to excite students and alumni.
