Student Life

Our 375-acre campus houses students in 19 residence halls, including our newly constructed Freshman Village. The University’s impressive student union and bookstore, dining hall, library, intramural center and health center provide further convenience, comfort and entertainment for our students.
Grambling has dozens of clubs and organizations that offer activities that suit each student’s individual desires: Honor societies, pre-professional organizations, sports teams, art and music, religion, politics, and Greek letter organizations are just a few.

Best Student Band—to Join or Enjoy

The Tiger Marching Band has been called the number one collegiate show band in the world. Formed in 1926 by Grambling President R. W. E. Jones, the mighty Tiger Marching Band has been featured in Super Bowl games, appeared as guest entertainment on television shows and commercials, and the major motion picture Drumline. The band entertained Liberian President William R. Tolbert at his 1972 inauguration. In 1999, it became the only band inducted into the NCAA Hall of Champions. This designation and an impressive list of other accomplishments and honors have earned the Grambling Tiger Band the title of “The Best In The Land.”

“Cradle of the Pros”

It’s a tribute to the excellence that is a hallmark of a Grambling education that more than 100 of our student athletes have become professional athletes. Among them: NFL Hall of Famers Willie Davis, Willie Brown, Buck Buchanan and Charlie Joiner, the league’s first black starting quarterback. In basketball, we celebrate NBA Hall of Famer Willis Reid. These legendary athletes have helped Grambling earn the title “The Cradle of Pros.”

Our dominance in college football began with Coach Eddie Robinson, the “winningest” coach in the history of game. Since then, our players have been nurtured by a coaching staff that has included football greats such as Grambling alum and NFL Super Bowl MVP Doug Williams. Athletics at Grambling is an important part of student life, providing an enriching experience for the student athletes and a great pastime for our enthusiastic fans.
