Grambling State University’s
Department of English and Foreign Languages sponsors a
High School Poetry Contest
open to juniors and seniors in Louisiana high schools
Grambling State University’s Department of English and Foreign Languages is sponsoring a statewide High School Poetry Contest. Submissions will be accepted until January 31, 2013.
The author of the best original poem in English will receive $500; the second place poet will receive $300; and the third place poet will receive $100. In addition, there will be prizes of $100 each for the best original poems in Spanish and in French.
Only Louisiana junior and senior high school students are invited to participate. By entering the contest, entrants accept the terms stipulated below. Original poems must be submitted through the following e-mail address: <email@example.com>. The e-mail should include the student’s name, class, street address, city, state, zip code, e-mail address, phone number, high school, and the name of any teacher(s) who may have encouraged the entrant to write or submit an entry. No student is allowed to submit more than two poems, and no poem can exceed one page in length. To facilitate assessment, judges require that the poems be printed in an easily read standard font like 12 pt. Times New Roman.
All poems will be judged anonymously by GSU faculty members. This contest is supported by voluntary donations, and under no circumstances will a contestant have any claims against Grambling State University, the Department of English or judges. The decision of the judges awarding prizes will be final; we reserve the right to withhold prizes if we receive insufficient submissions of reasonable quality. Participation in this contest is voluntary and the prize money has been raised from voluntary donations of supporters, and Grambling State University disclaims any responsibility.
Winners will be notified by April 15, 2013. Prizes will be sent in the form of a check or money order.
Although each author will retain their primary copyright by entering the Contest, each contestant agrees to allow the Department of English and Foreign Languages at Grambling State University to publicize and publish their submitted poems without charge.
