Connie Walton Appointed Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at GSU
Grambling,
LA.---- On Friday, January 8, 2010, the University of Louisiana System approved
the appointment of Dr. Connie Walton as Interim Provost and Vice President
of Academic Affairs for GSU. Walton has served as the Dean of the College
of Arts and Sciences since 2005.
Walton received her B.S. in Chemistry from GSU and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Southern Mississippi. In her commitment to GSU, Dr. Walton has participated on numerous committees, including Faculty Representative on the Black & Gold Foundation, Co-Chair of SACS Compliance Certification Report Committee, and as Chief Articulation Officer for GSU (Board of Regents).
Dr. Walton is a dedicated leader who consistently strives to ensure the success of students across the campus. Walton says that it is her goal to “ensure that each student has the opportunity to succeed”. Her experiences as an undergraduate and the support she received while at GSU serve as her inspiration to “give back to future Gramblinites”. She is looking forward to providing continuity to the university during the national search and is excited about the possibility of offering more through her service.
A native of Minden, Dr. Walton is a member of Zion Traveler Baptist Church in Ruston and is married to Gregory Clement.
