GSU ‘Parade of Champions,’ football banquet set for Jan. 29
GRAMBLING – Grambling State University has scheduled a day of activities on Jan. 29 to salute its 2008 championship football team.
The festivities start at 11 a.m. with a “Parade of Champions” to honor the 2008 Sheridan Black College National Championship Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship team. A pep rally in the Men's Gym will immediately follow the parade. At 7 p.m., the team will hold its annual football banquet in the Favrot Student Union’s Black and Gold Room.
The Greater Grambling Chamber of Commerce is a co-sponsor of the parade, which will begin in downtown Grambling, continue through the campus and end on Main Street.
GSU President Horace A. Judson praised the team for its winning season. “Coach (Rod) Broadway and his staff have taken the team to another level. We are excited about the positive buzz around the team and Grambling State University.”
“We are so proud of the GSU football team and all of our athletes,” said Barbara McIntyre, president of the Grambling Chamber. “This is the community’s way of saying ‘thank you’ to the team and coaching staff for a job well done.”
Members of the football team, coaching staff and other campus organizations will appear in the parade, and the World Famed Grambling State University Tiger Marching Band, fresh off its appearance in the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C., is set to perform. The Grambling High School Marching Band is also scheduled to perform.
Banquet features football highlights
During the banquet, a highlight video featuring Grambling’s quest to its 22nd SWAC Championship and 14th Black College National Championship will be shown.
