GSU’s Foster-Johnson Health Center expands its service
GRAMBLING, La. -- The Foster-Johnson Health Center at Grambling State University is now staffed with five family nurse practitioners from the School of Nursing to provide expanded hours and services for GSU students.
The center is now open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. New programs include diagnosis and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs, free confidential or anonymous HIV testing and referral services, and physicals for GSU athletic teams, cheerleaders and band members. Center nurses can also collect blood samples that can be sent directly to labs for diagnosis. In the past, blood work was sent off campus.
The new testing programs are offered through Grambling’s collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals’ STD Control Program and its Office of Public Health HIV/ AIDS Program.
“Our goal for finally implementing these services is to help prevent the spread of these diseases through education, services, and treatment,” Angela Williams, co-director of the center, said. “The convenience that we can offer was something that was definitely needed.”
For more information please contact co-directors Dr. Brenda Thomason at (318) 274-2707 or Williams (318) 274-6287. Or contact the Foster-Johnson Health center at (318) 274-2351.
