Grambling tax preparers have helped more than 20 local families
GRAMBLING, La. -- Tax preparers at Grambling State University have provided free assistance to more than 20 individuals and families since February, said Laralee DeHart, the GSU accounting instructor who is coordinating the program with various public service agencies.
Free income tax return preparation and electronic filing services are available to low- and moderate-income taxpayers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through the end of tax season. Citizens who need assistance can go to Jacob T. Stewart Hall, Room 262, 150 RWE Jones Drive.
The program, titled Grambling VITA ("Volunteer Income Tax Assistance"), is a partnership between the IRS, United Way of Northeast Louisiana, the Department of Social Services and Grambling State University.
The program is staffed by 14 IRS-trained and certified volunteers who are also accounting students at the College of Business. For more information, contact DeHart at 274-3113 or dehartl@gram.edu.
