GSU Honored for Marrow Donor Recruitment

President Jusdon receives an award from the National Marrow Donor Program on behalf of the university.

Grambling, Louisiana –Grambling State University has been named the winner of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) award for 2007. The award is called the College Champion Award. This award is presented to colleges and universities that work to enhance the donor awareness and recruitment process. GSU posted 1,000 new donors on February 7.

The formal presentation of the award was Wednesday, April 25 at 9:00 a.m. in the School of Nursing Auditorium. President Horace A. Judson received the award on behalf of the university. Awards were also given to several outstanding student organizations and individuals.

“Many historically Black colleges have been part of our mission, but I can think of no better level of resources, support, and leadership that was exhibited Feb. 7,” said Dr. Jeffrey W. Chell, NMDP chief executive officer. “It is appropriate that Grambling State University becomes a College Champion. Grambling State has been an innovator and cultivated a spirit of excellence in education, sports, and music.”

The NMDP has taken this opportunity to issue a year-long challenge to the historically black colleges and universities in the United States to match or surpass Grambling’s recruitment achievement. A formal announcement will be made to the other colleges and universities this summer.
