Summer 2007 commencement exercises announced
Grambling, LA –135 students
will be conferred undergraduate and graduate degrees during the annual summer
commencement exercises at Grambling State University, Friday morning, July
27 at 10:00 in the assembly center on the GSU campus. Posthumously, an associate
degree in child development will be awarded to the family of LaTonya Smith
of Ruston. Smith, a former GSU student passed recently.
Dr. Wright L. Lassiter, Jr., Chancellor of the Dallas County Community College
District in Dallas, Texas will be the keynote speaker for the commencement
ceremony. Active in the Dallas community in educational, business and commerce,
religious and civic affairs, Smith is a retired lieutenant colonel from
the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Services Corps and an ordained minister.
The former college president received a B.S. degree from Alcorn State University
(with honors), an MBA from Indiana University and the doctorate from Auburn
University. The noted scholar, educator and writer is married to the former
Bessie Ryan and they have two children and two grandchildren.
