GSU Faculty members receive promotions and tenure

GRAMBLING-----Members of the Grambling State University faculty recently received promotions and tenure effective at the start of this (2008-2009) school year.

According to Dr. Robert Dixon, provost and vice-president for academic affairs, two faculty members received promotion in rank and five faculty members received tenure.

Dr. Martin Ayim was promoted from associate professor in Kinesiology, Sport and Leisure Studies to professor in Kinesiology, Sport and Leisure Studies and Dr. Edward Black from assistant professor in English to associate professor in English.

Faculty members receiving tenure included: Mae Conley of the Criminal Justice department, Edrene Frazier and Dr. J. Michael Pitts in the Mass Communication department, Sharon Murff in the School of Nursing and Tommie Slaughter in the Art department. Tenure is a status granted to faculty after a probationary period.
